    Nickel meteor in daylight ...

While just a kid, living in Richmond, Virginia, I was heading east on Park Avenue a block or two west of Meadow street, when I saw an oblong flash of bright green light descent rapidly to the horizon, nearly straight down, in broad daylight. (I'm reminded of this because I saw a similar event tonight, posted elsewhere).  That would put the thing east of Richmond on a reasonably well defined line.

I half-suspected at the time that it was a meteor.  I've seen descriptions since too suggest it was a nickel-iron meteor that very likely reached the ground.  I did not know who to contact at the time, but I always wondered if there was a nice piece of space junk out there waiting to be found.
