Earth not part of Milky Way

according to this: http://viewzone.com/milkyway.html our Solar system is not part of the Milky Way.The only envidence to support this article is found here:http://abc.net.au/science/news/stories/2007/1942665.htm.

    Is this true?

This is a prime example of an idiot with a Website turning a legitimate press release into a blog designed to achieve his own ends.

Everything in the article past the Implications in Global Warming is rubbish (except the photos ... and they have nothing at all to do with his point, they're just window-dressing thrown in to give the blog a "scientific" appearance).

The "real" article at your second link is very interesting (and recent) but hardly supports any conclusion such as "Earth not part of Milky Way" ... that's a pretty big leap on such scanty evidence. Give it time for more investigation ... but keep your towel handy. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I agree Jeff, the data on our Solar System being part of another galaxy might hold up but everything after that is nonsense.  What does the presence of dark spots on Pluto, aurorae on Saturn, A change in light intensity and light spot dynamics on Neptune, etc. etc. have to do with anything???  They don't. Just a lot of unrelated, natural phenomena.  For example, it's been known that most of the planets with atmospheres have aurorae and have had them all along, nothing remarkable about that.

The conjecture that our Solar System might be part of another galaxy that is being consumed by the Milky Way is interesting though and not unbelievable, that sort of thing happens fairly frequently with large galaxies.

I see the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) link has been removed.  Here is a link to Phil Platt's blog on his Bad Astronomy website in which he debunks the twisting of facts regarding the galaxies:
