    Remember Phobos 2?

Elderly members such as myself may remember the Phobos 2 mission. Sent to Mars, or rather its moon Phobos by the Soviet Union.

It was to land on Phobos, hop around, and learn much about the moon. Unfortunatelly, it failed on final approach to Phobos. having limped most of the way to Mars on back up power, following the demise of Phobos 1 earlier in its journey.

I am not going to go too deeply here into the alleged UFO incident, which some conspiracy theorists suggest is why Phobos failed.

The reason i am posting is i have worked on some images from the Mission. This is a view of the Mariner valley, and surrounding area. Phobos 2 took two images here, one red channel filter, and one thermal IR image. I combined them to gather together the data from both images.

These are false colour. However on the top images i have made an effort to try and go for a natural look.

The image immediantly above shows a eclipse shadow from Phobos on the Martian surface.

I used Green here for the thermal image, and red as the red channel. This is an obvious false colour version. However, it is interesting to see what areas are contrasted in IR Thermal.

I am always up to things like this on my site. So check in and have a look.

This topic may seem quite random, but i felt these boards have been a little quite.

Hope you enjoy seeing my new slant on some data which is approaching 20 years old!

Yes, nice images, I havent been into your site Anth, but I will later.

Those surfaces seen more like caramel ice-cream to me to be honest, from the smoothness and color.

About that UFO incident, I dont believe Phobos was a structure made of some material, but I believe something strange killed Phobos 2. Well to verify this could be real, the next Phobos mission, Fobos-Grunt, by Russia and China, will try another attempt. If they fail upon appoarching Phobos(Not Mars), and another strange image of somewhatever laser was taken, it proves Martians do exist and have some sercets.

Who knows? When man touches on Mars, we have to keep a look out for life, in fact, intelligent life, Martians!(No Offence Anth)

Yeah, it was a very strange incident. there is no way to deny that and there have been theories apon theories as to what exactly   did happen there. I guess the only way we will really know is if we meet some Martians  who will set  us straight..

I went googling on that exact topic and found this blog  that was quite an interesting read.

    Got me thinking.

Well I don't believe that would happen again on the next Phobos-Mars mission by China-Russia in 2010.
