Milky way collides with Andromeda Galaxy

Yeah I heard this last night so its recent news to me but I think most people here already know. I'm not sure if its going to happen before or after our sun supernovas..... in fact I dont know the date at all but anyway it would look quite brilliant when it gets close.Shock [:O]

Old news it is! However, I think it is going to be before our sun explodes as a supernova because last I heard the sun doesn't have enough mass to do that. If memory serves, the two great galaxies will (start to) collide in about 3 billion years and we'll become an elliptical galaxy or something. Who really knows... wait and see ;) Sun will end her days in about 5 billion years.

Whoa! that looks awesome, you wouldnt even need a telescope to see it when it happens, I wish I could be there when it happens

Yeah...the only problem is that our solar system will be either blasted from the intense radiation or get flung out into space...never to be seen again...Sigh [sigh]...oh well, hope its prettyWink [;)]

We and probably human exisitance will be long gone before that ever happens.
However, It has been known by scientist for years that the Our Milky Way and Andromeda have been slowly creeping towards each other.
It's not un-common to see galaxies interacting.  M51 is a very good example.

Here are some links you may find interesting that demonstrate what will happen.

But ya, it would be cool to be there when that happened, to bad we'll all be *long..very long* dead by then, and all human existance. Sigh [sigh]  But at least it won't happen for a very very long time. Smile [:)]

We in Astronomy only see the past, light takes billions of years to get here from other galaxys, so who can imagine whats happening out there now?

Yeah, but I'd still pack at a three-day supply of food, water, etc. like we would for any other disaster!
