    RegiStax Stp-By-Step Guide

There are several of us on here and probally many more who have not posted on the topic, who are just starting out in imaging. From what I have seen, we are all having wonderful sucess for our first tries, and seem to all be pretty much along the same learning curve. I have also noticed that many of us are finding RegiStax a bit overwhelming to take in all at once.

Last night while searcing the boards over at CN, I finally found a step-by-step guide that I found bery usefull. Its a BASIC guide but a guide none the less on the different steps in the processing procedure using RegiStax. In minutes I found settings that I did not even know I could adjust, and understood the ones I did know about 100times better.

Follow the link to the guide, and lets try to make this thread a beginners feedback about what we find to be helpful. Both for ourselves and for others just starting out.

It is really you who I should be thanking. Your advise on this forum has always been help too me.

This link I posted really helped me understand what I was doing much more, if I am not mistaken it has guides to quiet a few processing programs.

My hope is that is of help to anyone looking to expand their knowlede of Registax and similar processing software

Thanks for the link Dark, I needed some help with Registax too, and you have come through for us beginners with this one. Now I've just got to apply what I'm reading there. I can already assure you that I'm printing out that stuff. Big Smile [:D]

    No problem at all Kevin!

I knew I was not alone in the RegiStax learning quest.

I need to get some ink so I can print it out also, I used my last cartridge up printing star charts last nightBig Smile [:D]

Now if I can only get some good avi footage too work with. I went out tonight to try to capture Saturn. The fog moved in within minutes, the view using my 6mm Expanse & 2x Barlow was one of the best I have ever seen, even through the fog ( In fact I think the fog was helping, possible heling with contrast. Perhaps there should be a Fog Filter! ). I am not sure how the avi files came out yet though. After about 30 minutes, I couldnt even see Sirius the it got so thick.

I am still looking for more info on Registax and similar processing software. If I find some I will post it here ASAP

    Re: RegiStax Stp-By-Step Guide

In the continuing task of making this a RegiStax guide thread, I thought I would post a small trick I learned tonight in conjunction with VirtualDub.

Some of you may already know this, but I feel it may be helpful for thoses of you who dont. After you have opened your avi file in VirtualDub on the file tab at the top select "Save Image Sequence" A dialog box will open asking where too and how you want the sequence to be saved. MAKE SURE you select a folder you will remember, and select the bmp extension. Then the frames from the avi file you have loaded will be individually placed into the selected folder.

Close VirtualDub and open the folder, then you can manually go through each frame deleting the ones that are noticably not worth continuing with, plus you can make a mental note ( or writing it down comes in handy ) of the best frame in the sequence that can be used as your reference once the frames are loaded into RegiStax.

It takes a little bit of time to go through them especially if there are several hundered, but I found it to be most helpful in  weeding out the obviously degraded frames before even starting.

    makelessnoise,

I really hope you find it to be usefull. RegiStax seems difficult in the beginning, but after a while you will start to understand what does and does not work  well for certain circumstances.

    tasco,
    That sounds interesting.

its really fun, we got about 25 players now- you answer 10 daily questions- no 2 people get the same cause they are radomly picked- the daily / weekly/ monthly winners are then posted- your also in a timer- so a person with say 7 right, may get a lower score then a person with 6 right in faster time-you can access it here

Can registax be used to stack .jpg image files?  I have tried without success.  Thanks to anyone who can give guidance.  The tutorials available seem to all refer to webcam images (.avi).

    Re: RegiStax Stp-By-Step Guide

Registax can stack several different types of images, including bitmaps.

When you do File Select, look to the lower part of the dialog box and click on the file type pulldown to select the type of file you want.

Once the file folder window shows the files of that type, you can select them in any number you like by using Shift-Click or Ctrl-Click as with other Windows programs.
