Verry nice images Zachsdad. Those bands are not only colourful but stand out rather well too. Didn't see anything at all remarkable from my location at sunset over the last two days.

Here are a couple of shots I took last Thursday evening. The sky appeared clear (note the lone cloud on the right of the first photo) until the sun's angle was low enough.

The lavendar color wasn't quite as apparent tonight from where I viewed the sunset. I managed to capture a bit of it in two photos that I posted here.

Have you been able to see the ripples? I think they become more noticeable right as the Sun sinks below the horizon.

I'm headed out this evening to see if I can catch both the Sunset and Moonrise over the river this evening. Full Moon should be rising over the river about 35 minutes after the Sun sets so should look pretty good.

Gorgeous, and a beautiful part of NC, I'm from NC myself and heading back in like a week, hopefully there will be some ash left in the sky. (Not that it's great for the enviroment, but i wanna see it)

Looks like a very nice area. I especially like the reflections. Unfortunatly for me I took a look at spaceweather and it doesn't look like the ash will make it over SoCal where I am.

Volcanic Sunset

Anyone who has been folowing http://www.spaceweather.com and, has had been able to see the Sun here in the northern hemisphere might already now about this, however for those who are not, you may have noticed the Sunset with some unusual shades of lavendar and with ripples of white. for information on this you can refer to spaceweather.com to learn why.

This evening I shared the colorful Setting Sun with my wife at a place called Queens Creek near my home here in Hubert, North Carolina. I managed to capture the colors and the ripples of white as the Sun set further and further behind the distant tree line.

A couple of the following images are two frame panoramas merged in photoshop.
