Any Astronomers in Southern Illinois?

Just checking to see if any one does astronomy in Southern Illinois. I live outside of Johnston City, north of Marion, North East of Carbondale. I observe with a 10" DOB out in my back field. I've searched Google, but have had no luck in my search.

Advice for starting a club...

Hello fellow star gazers. I have a bit or an inquiry. You see, I would like to start an astronomy club here in Williams County, Ohio. Skies here seem dark enough, as we are about 60 miles from any major city. I just recently purchased a medum sized 6" reflecting telescope, and I have fallen in love, so to say, although I have only had one clear night on a night that I am off from work. However, I am not too familiar with how to start-up an astronomy club, or if there are even any other fellow amateur astronomers in my area (Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Van Wert counties in Ohio, Hillsdale county in Michigan, Steuben county in Indiana).

So I guess I have two questions. First, is there anybody here from the area, or do you know of anybody in the area (or let me know if there is already a club in my area). Second, can I get some advice on how to start a good club and how to get interest from legitimate amateur astronomers?

Hi there. Well I thought I would start a group for those of us in the greater LA area who may want some help finding people to go observing with. If you are interested please by all means check out the group. I just created it yesterday so it will take a little bit to get going. Clubs are great to belong to, but sometimes you just want to go stargazing on a weekend when there isn't a star party planned. This I hope will allow people to plan and organize small get togethers in the area. Hope to hear from you.

Is anyone by any chance going to start one? The only one there is seems to be for telescope making, which I don't intend to try for a while...

The Arkansas/Oklahoma Astronomical Society is based at our Coleman Observatory located north/west of Van Buren, Arkansas. Our main scope is a research grade Celestron C-14 on a CGE Mount.

We host 2 Public Star Parties each month at our observatory and at other locations. We are active in astronomy education out reach in local schools.

Astronomy club in Southeast Iowa

I've found a club near where I live here in southeast Iowa, oddly enough it is called the Southeast Iowa Astronomy Club. They hold public events the first Friday of each month and I plan on attending this Friday, weather permitting. The club has a permenant location with three observatories located in an area which should have very dark skies. Dedicated telescopes at this location include a 12", f15 Alvan Clark doublet refractor, an 8" triplet, and a 16" classical cassigrain. I'm looking forward to the experience.
