    Making large homemade telescope

On this homemade telescope site, http://sites.google.com/site/telescope1999/ I see that the secondary cage for his telescope making project is made from a formica sheet and two wood rings. Has anyone else tried this?

Formica can be a bit tricky to cut, but its other properties would seem to make it a good choice for an upper cage material.
