I imagine the headline today for this journalistic rag will be something along the lines that the reason there was not much of a plume was that the s hiding out in this crater blasted it with their super secret ray gun our had some kind of shielding that protected them from our dastardly assault.

Did anyone read that article? I have better things to do than read stuff from that rag.

Nope, I don't read trash media such as the Examiner, the Enquirer, or the Globe.

Whatever the article is about, please leave where it is and don't bring it back here. We have enough theorists as it is.

Nah, I didn't read it either.  But it is not just the fringe newspapers that were jumping on board with stupid headlines either:

NASA MOON BOMBING Daily Telegraph,  Were lots of headlines screaming about the "Moon Bombing."

Others: Remember Deep impact?, LCROSS Mission crashes into Moon, Multi-Million Dollar Spacecraft to Crash into Moon, NASA's Moon Bombing, OH NO! NASA IS GOING TO HIT THE MOON! RUN! (Huffington Post), NASA's Moon Blast Called A Smashing Success, & NASA To Give The Moon A Double Smack.

After seeing all these ridiculous headlines and reading the following article it amazes me that some people have enough intellegence to feed and dress themselve:

It's usually the uneducated that screams the loudest.

Yesterday, I was asked by a guy "why is NASA going to hit the Moon with a nuclear war head?"
And by a lady later in the evening, "why is NASA blowing up the Moon?"

This morning, a lady here at work asked "why is NASA looking for water on the Moon, don't we have enough here?"

Politely, I explained to all three what the mission was about, and that they had no worries. On each account, once they were out of sight... I commenced in relieving myself of what little hair I have left.

    Sorry,

One more thing before I let this go.  What really irks me is that everyone in the press, mainstream or fringe, seems to think that LCROSS is the first NASA mission designed to impact the lunar surface.  Doesn't anybody remember the Ranger missions?  I don't recall much of an uproar then as these spacecraft took pictures until the impacted the surface as they were designed to do.

It always amazes me just how ignorant so many people are of history.

Man,,,, I was worried once the moon was hit we/the earth was going spiral into the sun and we would all be burned,,,,, but last week I was assured this would not happen as I was being probed by alien beings. Aren't we just the luckiest????

To all the nut jobs who feared that crashing a spacecraft into the Moon would kill us all or aliens hiding there, to the editors who thought up the phrase "NASA is Bombing the Moon", to the reporters who never bothered to check their facts nor the history of lunar exploration, and to all those who think that that harmonic convergence and the music of the spheres trumps physics, the engineers and quality assurance people of my aerospace company thank you for the smiles and laughter that you brought us this fine Friday morning.

Please keep your hands and arms inside the Earth's atmosphere until the universe comes to a complete stop.

    Thank You,

    People actually read that garbage?
I don't doubt it but I can't believe people are ignorant or naive enough to believe the bull that comes from those sources.

Yeah that was a bit uncomfortable, but I didn't care much for the cranial interface. For some reason it kept getting a Device Not Found or Empty Error

I'm not a nut(some may disagree however) and I can and did read about the mentioned missions. But I am disappointed only due to the fact that I've been dealing with almost constant cloudiness which yet again this morning caused me not to be able to even TRY to see an event, rather blown up in media hype or not, that was/is somewhat historical. NASA being one of the leading organizations, technologically speaking, in the world and they provide bupkis as far as real-time images go.  I'm not making a big deal out of this because they "blew up" the moon.  I just wanted to see SOMETHING, since this was the first time I'd actually been old enough and aware enough to be a part of it all.

I just wanted to see SOMETHING,

A lot of us did too.  I mean I did get up this morning but returned to my slumber when I looked out my window and saw a solid cloud deck.  Since I really didn't get a chance to see anything maybe that was a good thing since I wasn't disappointed when the impact didn't produce a large enough plume/flash to be seen.

One good thing about the universe is that something else will come along to wow us, whether an impact caused by natural causes, a nova, a bright comet, or a great meteor shower we have quite a lot to look forward too if we keep looking up.

Now, if only the clouds would give both of us a break and buzz off for awhile!

Oh, and I guess I haven't had the pleasure of being picked up by alien visitors but considering the fact I hardly ever got picked by Earth girls it shouldn't be a surprise I guess.

Have a great and star filled weekend to each and everyone of us,

Re: Examiner.com says that LCROSS mission will kill aliens

While I would not dream of defending the paranoid alien lovers out there, I wanted to show up to defend Examiner.com a little bit.  We're not all insane nutjobs.  Honest.  Fortunately or unfortunately, Examiner allows a whole lot of people a whole lot of leeway to post on whatever they think is important.  And some people place a great deal of importance on the crazy.

There are some writers on Examiner.com with a much more sane view toward astronomy.  My own page (and I fully admit to shameless self-promotion here) deals with observational astronomy for the most part.  No aliens.  Although I did just post on Jimmy Dean, so maybe I should hold my tongue.

Anyway, for REAL astronomy on Examiner.com:

    New York Astronomy Examiner: http://www.examiner.com/x-16479-NY-Astronomy-Examiner

    St. Louis Astronomy Examiner: http://www.examiner.com/x-8054-St-Louis-Astronomy-Examiner

    Denver Space Industry Examiner: http://www.examiner.com/x-2558-Denver-Space-Industry-Examiner

Now I'm off to check out the rest of this forum!

to the forum NYAstronomy. The Examiner I was talking about is The National Examiner, the supermarket tabloid owned by the American Media Corporation. Nothing I've seen at Examiner.com is evenly remotely close to the trash that rag publishes. As far as I know, The National Examiner doesn't even have a web site.

After checking out your links I would tend to agree.  It also appears that Kevin has shown us that we are referencing wholly different animals in the publishing zoo.
