    Eastern Sky

My latest time lapse animation. Camera: Canon EOS 50D with EF-S18-55mm lens @ 18mm f/3.5, ISO 800, 501x 30 second exposures. Windows movie maker to turn the still frames into a this time lapse animation.

Watch the high thin clouds passing over. When the skies clear of the thick clouds this has been the typical clear night around here this summer, then at the end you can tell the fog started to build in. Not exactly ideal conditions for observing and especially astrophotography.

Watch as Andromeda(M31) rises into the scene, then at the end as the Pleiades rises above the trees. I captured a few meteors and a couple satellites in this one, but If you look carefully just after the ending credits you will see a meteor streak off the tail of the Pleiades.

Very nice Tim!  I may have to try my hand at this

edit: oh, were the images consecutive or did you delay a bit between exposures? :)

I set it up so there was a 6 second delay between each 30 second exposure. Total time was just a bit over 5 hours. Would have gone a little longer if the fog didn't close in on me.

I'll be taking all those frames and turning them into a single star trails image also.

4 hours?!?!?!? That's awesome!!! That's about how long I need to get a single semi-decent pic of Jupiter.

I saw the Pleades rise at the end of your beautiful sequence.  But I didn't see Andromeda, most likely because I don't know what it looks like.  About when was that in your video?

Thank you very much for this Tim.  It really is nicely done and gives one a real sense of time as the stars wheel in their courses.  My computer monitor thanks you as well as I cleaned it, finally, so I could see this video better.

Ravening clouds shall not long be victorious, They shall not long possess the sky, they devour the stars only in apparition, Jupiter shall emerge, be patient, watch again another night, the Pleiades shall emerge, They are immortal, all those stars both silvery and golden shall shine out again, The great stars and the little ones shall shine out again, they endure, The vast immortal suns and the long-enduring pensive moons shall again shine. (Walt Whitman)
