    New Cosmology 101 video series

I just wanted to make everyone aware of a new video series Associate Editor Liz Kruesi is working on. The series is called Cosmology 101, and each video provides an overview of a different concept in the field. So far, she's produced two installments:

    The Big Bang

    Dark Matter

The Big Bang video is available to anyone, while the Dark Matter piece is available to registered members of Astronomy.com. Registration on Astronomy.com is free and easy, although if you are posting on the Forums, you've obviously already registered.

    Enjoy!

Does one purchase this or is it free? Is it available only online? Can it be mailed to an interested person?

They are free for viewing online by clicking on the above links (you must be signed in to Astronomy.com to view the second one, but just like the Forums, it's still free). They aren't on DVD or anything like that -- just on the Web.

Re: New Cosmology 101 video series

You can view my blog "Neocosmology" at Blogger.com - I think the word "neocosmology" is a more appropriate term to refer to the "new cosmology". It is one word and is easy to pronounce, spell, has fewer characters and follows an established precedent. The meaning of the prefix "neo" is also well known even to kids. .......... The trouble is that the real implications of neocosmology are not yet really recognized. For instance, it may be "hard to believe" that gravity may be be leaking into our universe (U) from other quantum manifestations of U as well as leaking out (as proposed by Randall). The final result of the two processes would be to serve as a source of the "missing mass" that has been called "dark matter". .......... Gravity may leak into U leading to the variations from Newton's Law that have been detailed in the theory of modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND). This inbound leakage would be focussed on galaxies and galactic clusters while leakage "out" of U would lead to the measured degree of weakness that is observed to cause gravity to be ranked last, by far, of the fundamental forces in terms of intrinsic strength. ......... Quantum phenomena are often "hard to believe". They are real and they are true to the theory nonetheless. Neocosmology also stands against the idea of "dark energy". This is because "dark energy" is a pure misinterpretation of the meaning of observations. See http://neocosmology.blogspot.com - for details.
