    McDonald Observatory

Has anyone been to McDonald Observatory in Texas? Looks like I might go there this August or next year.

Yes, I visit frequently. They have an active outreach program, probably the best of its kind among professional observatories.

    Here is their website.

Note they have regularly-scheduled star parties at their visitors center, but not every night. There are also opportunities to look through the 36" and 82" telescopes from time to time (for a fee).

There are a good many daytime activities in the area, too, so do plan to stay for a day or two -- especially if you've never been to the area before.

Let me know if I can help further.
