Steady State theory question (historical).

    Steady State theory question (historical).

    I've read a bit about the Steady State theory, and one thing I can't understand is how they explained what the universe would have looked like aaaaages ago. Steady State theorists accepted the expanding universe, obviously, but if you went back far enough, wouldn't everything come to a single point anyway, as in the Big Bang theory? I just don't get it.
