    terrestrial lightning and aurora

Is there a relation between the terrestrial lightning in the auroral zone and the aurora?

I've spent a lot of time observing and photographing both lighting and aurora. I'm not aware of any relationship between the two and in most cases I doubt there is any. But I would not rule it out altogether. Sprites, jets, and elves are forms of lightning which occur at very high altitudes and are not yet very well understood.
