I took possession of my first nice telescope this week. An Orion SkyQuest XT10 Classic. I am thoroughly impressed. I have been out two nights now and the view of Jupiter was just tremendous and it wasn't even a good seeing night.
I am still learning the sky so I will be taking this slow and easy and not trying to view too many things at one time. Last night I spent a couple hours just observing Jupiter at 300X and it was truly amazing. The earth's heat waves were not letting me get a good clear view but it was enough to just make out the giant red spot and the distinctive bands.
As viewing gets better I hope to view some deep space objects.
