    Hello,

I'm relatively new to astronomy and suffer from all of the usual symptoms. I just can't seem to get enough of this stuff.

    Hi!

I stumbled across this forum while Googling something else entirely.  Great luck!  This looks like it'll be a fun read.

I studied astronomy back in the day, but I kind of moved away from it until recently.  Now I've started doing a fair amount of astronomy writing, which seems to be pulling me back in the celestial direction.  Next thing you know, I'll be trying to afford a telescope again...  :)

    Nice to meet you all!

Re: A Welcome to New Members,, Please take the time to read.

    Hello all,

I joined the community about a week ago and have been lurking around the forums. I have been interested in astronomy since I was a kid. Then my high school had a planetarium, and that get me even more interested. After HS, life happened. Now, 20 years later, I am taking up the hobby again.

I have a variety of books, pc programs, etc, but am missing a key piece of equipment. My Orion xt8 is on order and should ship soon!

I don't have any expectations. I don't care what I see, I'm easy that way. (though saturn and jupiter would really make my day. Andromeda would be cool too... )

Hope to become an active member of the forums!

I am an amateur who has been inactive for the last decade.  Have been out of touch with current astronomy events, so am getting back in touch.  I have a Celestron C-8 and an original Meade 10" f/6.3 along with other smaller glass.

Like the prodigal son, I'm home to the hobby again.  Bought my first scope in 1973, a Criterion "Dynascope"  6" f/8 Newtonian.  Pressures of work and sending kids to college, etc. led me astray for awhile.  Now "I'm Baaaccckk!!!"  I have grandkids to teach the wonders of the night sky.  Heaven knows the school system doesn't do the subject justice.
Besides, every grandpa needs a wholesome project to share with his progeny.

hello all. I look forward to learn new things here and meet new friends. I have a question: I live in Los Angeles, California ( outside the city with a good sky viewing conditions). My girlfriend is now in Buenos Aires (2 hours outside the city with a good sky viewing conditions). I’d like to connect with her via common star in the night sky that we both can easily identify and see at the exact moment. Is this possible? Thanks

Hello all! I am a computer programmer down here on  the Mississippi Gulf Coast (US). WOW! What a great site you folks have put together. I've always been interested in astronomy, lots of reading and multimedia, but never been active in star gazing. I am recently remarried and have a 10 year old stepson that also loves Astronomy. We've become fast friends and I thought... what a great opportunity to connect! Please be prepared for many uber newb questions on equipment. I know nothing! lol...And thanks to Tim for a great welcome post. This seems like a very well put together and moderated forum for the discussion of all that is Astronomy and only Astronomy. And "Have a nice___". lol...Looking forward learning a lot and hopefully contributing a bit from time to time. Rick

Hello everyone! I have just become a member here and I am looking forward to learning more about our skies. I have always enjoyed stargazing but never really sat and studied it, until recently. My mom has a telescope that she never uses, so I am borrowing that at the moment until I get something for myself. I hail from just outside the Seattle are here in Washington, which can limit how many days a year I can watch a clear sky. Take care and maybe I'll see you in the forum sometime!

    Hello there.

I'll make my greeting as short as possible, I'm semi-new too astronomy. This is because I have read many books and I do have a bit of knowledge behind me. So I'm glad to be here with other star-gazers and I hope to create a reputation for myself here.

    Thanks

Welcome aboard!  Be sure to let uis know how your forays are coming along.  Presonally, I'm so excited I'm almost giddy.  My venerable old (bought in 1973) Criterion "Dynascope" 6" f/8 Newtonian is finally being retired.  My wife (in the role of Mrs. Santa) decided I need a new Celestron CPC1100GPS XLT for Christmas.  Can't wait!  I'm feeling like a newbie again!

Hi there I am from the UK and love Astronomy, look forward to getting to grips with the site. My claim to fame is that I have once spoken to Sir Patrick Moore (just a very brief hello !!! ).

I am an Artist and enjoy painting star scenes and spacescapes.

And would like some info on what we might find on a clear night. If anyone could help us that sure would be nice. We are finding a lot of good stuff on this site. Thanks for taking time to read this.

Astronomy magazine is what jump-started my active participation in this enthralling and expensive hobby after a 30-year hiatus (thanks, David Eicher - it's all your fault ).

About 4 years ago I decided to learn astrophotography - what an incredible challenge that was!

I guess I'm living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

    Clear skies to all,
