    Anybody heard of Ethos?

Hi all.  I got an e-mail from my folks the other day wanting to know if I had heard of this stuff.  I checked out the web site and did some reading.  You know what they they say, if it sounds too good to be true...  The web site I read was save80cents.com This stuff is a gasoline additive that "reformulates" the gas to make it easier to burn thus making more of it burn instead of just blowing out your tailpipe.  That is the short of it.  It all sounds good but again, if it sounds too good...  I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this stuff or knew anything about it.  If it is too good does anyone have a Vespa for sale?

You know the olds saying, If it sounds to good to be true it usually is.. Remain Skeptical, That reads too much like a hit and run sales tactic.

Sounds more like a bad joke.  A lot of the older cars using carburetors were estimated at only burning about 15% of the fuel that went through cylinders, The rest was blown out the exaust. Newer Vehicles on the other hand are much much more efficient. That's what that emission control system is for.

Don't believe everything you hear or read on gasoline additives are fuel saving gadgets. Most have already been proven to be worthless by reputable sources that devote countless man hours and funds on testing these products.  If there is anything that would make your vehicle conserve fuel, the Auto industry would have already implemented it into the production of Vehicles. Something like that would only benefit their sales increasing their profits.

The best method for conserving fuel is to keep your vehicle properly tuned, Tires properly inflated, and don't drive like a lead foot.  The occasional addition of a fuel additive like STP to help keep the fuel system clean won't hurt, but even those don't do as good as some people would like. There is no magic solution.

There IS a product out now that will save a person 100% of their fuel consumption.  It has been tested and, astonishingly, the automotive industry doesn't have too much good to say about it.

A bicycle, that'll do the trick!  Although, I don't see me getting up at 3:00 a.m. in order to get ready for and peddle my way to work every morning!LOL

Once upon a time when men were men and women loved them for it, engines were measured in cubic inches and carburetors were rated by the number of their barrels there was this product called STP.  Everyone used it as it was touted as the "racer's edge" and during the Oil Crisis of the 1970s it was touted as a way to increase one's fuel economy by keeping one's engine clean and slick.

Nobody uses this anymore because it wasn't worth the effort.  So it has proved with additives since the 1960s.  It is far more effective to increase your milage by driving more slowly, accelerating gently, and keeping your foot off the brake.  Just coasting to that stop light instead of keeping ones foot on the gas and braking at the last second will increase your MPG more than all the additives put together.

Do you think the talk of dropping the speed limit back to 55 mph will become reality?  Boy, that'll put a bee in many people's collective bonnett!

Depends on where one lives.  In congested urban areas going 55 is already more dream than reality.  In a wide open state like Montana one would expect a lot more resistance.  I wouldn't mind reducing the limit by 5 mph as it would save a lot of fuel but not be too onerous for most people.
