    Frolicking in the sun

We've got this big Mimosa tree in our front yard.  It is currently full of the pink fluffy little flowers which are normally long gone by this time of year.  Nonetheless they are still blooming and attracting some insects.   Normally they also attract Humming Birds which I haven't yet seen this year.

This pair was a challenge to chase around with the camera, but I did manage to catch a few shots.

    Nice shots, tkerr!

On a recent weekend trip to Branson, MO, my daughter wanted to go to the Butterfly Palace.  That's a new attraction in town.  I'll have to admit, the building looked interesting setting up on the hill.  But, I thought, "I don't want to go to that.  It's probably just a BIG money getter and I'll leave there with nothing to show for it but an emptier wallet."  Boy was I wrong!

They had a rainforest room where there were different frogs, salamanders, lizards and insects.  Next to that was a mirror maze.  Easy to get lost in.  Then, on the third floor was the butterfly room.  Big room fixed up like a rainforest with hundreds of butterflies from Asia, Africa, South and Central America and a couple from the U.S.  You just walk around in this room with all these butterflies flying around and try to identify them using your handy-dandy identification chart they(the room attendant, not the butterflies) give you.   It was pretty cool!

It's worth the time and money if you find yourself in Branson, MO.

I like the one where he's coming in for a landing.  The shadow under the butterfly is a wonderful detail!

Also on the wildlife front for today, I was herding the kids into the car this morning so I could get them to school and there was a lizard on the sidewalk.  Like the totally lame girl that I am, I screamed.  The funny thing is I scared the lizard and he did this strange sort of dance before he ran off.  I laughed after that, who scared who the most.....?

We have one of those in the backyard, and the butterflies and bumblebees love it. In past years, we've had four hummingbirds that would frequent this tree, so far this year I've only seen two.
