    Mini black holes

Is it physicaly possible to create a mini black hole in a secured enviroment? I mean is there any  technology that could even get close to this?

If so is it something humanity would endevour to do and what would be the effect?

There's been quite a bit of talk about this related to the Large Hadron Collider coming online.

If you're worried about any threat from them, then don't. Black-holes form from stars with 2.5 - 10 times the mass of the sun. So black holes have to be quite big to sustain themselves. These mini black holes only last for less than a second.

If they even exist.  Right now mini-black holes are only theoretical.  None has ever been observed.   Stars with 2.5 to 10 times the mass of the sun collapse and form black holes in nature.  In theory any mass sufficiently compressed could form a black hole.  An artificially generated black hole would need to have the mass of the moon to be self sustaining if Hawking Radiation exists.

zachsdad : I like your if .  I have a hunch the higgs field will prove to be an empty dream, however the new concept, will give us much to talk about. I sort of think the new concept might take on a more in depth look at relativistic time. This is just conjecture.

I guess you're agreeing with me!?

Absolutely.  I just had that tid-bit about the minimum mass for a sefl sustaining black-hole ratteling around in my head and saw a chance to use it.

Phew. I could see it going either way...
