Well, mistakes by the media are in no way limited to astronomy alone. They bungle everything, mostly because they are programs organized by humans. If you don't want mistakes, leave it to computers. It's that simple and that impossible. ;)
What irks me more than the mistakes they make in facts is how the destroy the English language as a whole. You have no idea how many times I have had to endure the pain of hearing someone say, "If he was..." or, "She wishes she was..."
The fact of the matter is no one ever really gets it straight.
However, I understand the frustration entirely. As a copy editor for my school newspaper, I spend most of my time catching the mistakes of others, and, though I am very good at what I do, things do slip by. It's frustrating enough to not catch the mistakes, but then to encounter them on the news or in a local newspaper... -sigh-
