    Astronomy Education Center

Sioux Empire Astronomy Club recently received enough Donations and a generous contribution of funds and land from the owner at our dark site observing site to begin construction on a Education building. It is 24 foot by 24 foot and will have 1 bath with shower and a half bath. It will be used for our annual star party and for education events for Boy and Girl Scouts and other public / community events. The building is located at the Hodgson observatory In rural Beresford South Dakota. We are all proud of our work so far.

What an amazing facility!!  It's a great educational service to your community!  I hope many people take advantage of it.

The Warren Astronomical Society has an observatory  about 15 miles north of my location.  They are granted park land in exchange for giving free lectures once a month for visitors and campers... but it isn't anything like your set up!  Amazing....

    Re: Astronomy Education Center

Construction continues and we have only put in 5 days of weekend work so far. We now have a building with a roof on it. Several club members showed up to help with the roof sheeting. This facility should seat about 30 people. It is a really great club project. Every one of our members are lending their help and expertise in some way. As coordinator of this project I could not be happier with the way things have gone so far. After each day of construction we gather and set our goal for the next weekend's work. This has really brought the club together like a family. The comradery is excellent. What a great group of people!

Construction continues on our Astronomy Education building. So far we have put in only 11 days of construction over the summer months. The club works on Saturdays only and take the New Moon Saturday off each month to observe. We have had a great time so far with this extreme project. You can see our progress so far at this link. At the bottom of each section is a link to the next section of our progress. Hope you enjoy.
