Well I've given it a couple more weeks and the problem is yet to be rectified!......It's funny how with Firefox the site pops up quicker , everything loads quicker , you don't have to left click the mouse every time you want to scroll , when you do click on anything you get a little box that assures you that the click was recognized......Firefox works so much nicer in every realm of this site!........But!.....When you try to access READER FORUMS it CRASHES!!!.........This is sooooo annoying!.....And doesn't make any sense seeing that all other realms on the site respond FAR superior useing Firefox!.......What is the deal!???...I use reader forums more than anything here but I'm "ball & chained" to useing the far inferior , tremendousely slower Internet Explorer on reader forums!.....We've now narrowed it down to only ONE realm of the site, sooo it shouldn't be that difficult to fix! No!

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Reader forums? That's the whole thing isn't it? I've managed to get logged in successfully a few times today, usually not and can't even get out without killing the browser. Hardly worth the effort anymore. No fixes I've tried work.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Trying to experience the problems that the two of you have been ranting about, I downloaded and installed the Firefox web browser, I'm using it right now. The only problem I have with it is that you still have to click the page to scroll. Other than that, I still haven't experienced any other problems. Getting out isn't a problem, making a post isn't a problem, and moving from one thread to another isn't a problem. I'll use this browser for a while to see if I experience any crashes or any of the other irritations that you are having.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Call it ranting if you want. If I make a successful connection, everything will work and usually not too slowly. And I can travel back and forth between any number of sites and this one remains operating. But, I can't leave the connection open all the time because I use dial-up. Dialing in again and getting here has about a 60% chance of success. I have way better things to do than try and learn how to be a computer programmer.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Well, I got here again, but yeah, it is a TOTAL mystery to me. I have Firefox set to look for updates, but ask for permission to install them. And it takes awhile to even find out if it IS working, there's no error indication of any sort. Just finally when it all looks OK, it's dead.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
I used to have dialup and what I did to speed things up is to right click and open link in new window each link I wanted open, that way you wouldn`t have to be backing out of anything wasting more time. I guess its sorta like mozillas new tab. For years of dialup, and now on cable now I still do open in new window and I haven`t had any real problems but a preview/edit one time.

Dialing in again and getting here has about a 60% chance of success. I have way better things to do than try and learn how to be a computer programmer. This makes the problem sound like your dial up connection then, not the browser or the forum settings (even though they add to the problem). It's a known fact that with dial up, you don't always get the same connection speed every time you connect, and thats more likely to be the problem. With the slower connecting speed, that would cause all of the problems you're experiencing with browser crashes and such. Now I understand why you're having so many issues with this site. In your other posts, you never mentioned the connection problems that I can recall. I understand the frustrations of not having a high speed provider, but the alternative to getting high speed to you (by satellite} wouldn't be any better than putting up with the frustrations of dial up. Satellite internet is fast, and works fine as long as it's clear. But just like satellite television, as soon as a thick cloud rolls through then your internet connection is squashed. It's a shame that the old forum wasn't left operational for instances such as this, and interlinked into this one. Then you could make your posts there, but they would still show up here, and posts made here would still show up on the old forum. I know that sort of setup has been done before, but as I understand it, it's a programmers nightmare to set up and also eats up bandwidth on the servers. As a bottom line to the upgrades of this site, they really have changed the look and feel of this place, and has in my opinion been a very nice change. On the other hand, for those that are still stuck with dial up, I can understand the frustrations that the changes have caused and wish I could get the programmers to come up with a solution. I will ask that other options be looked at to see if there is some way to accommodate those that are using dial up, and maybe they will take it into consideration. The only ties I have to the company are through my efforts on this forum, which doesn't put me very high on the ladder of those that matter, but we'll see what, if anything transpires. I'll plead your case, but it's up to them if anything is done. Cheers!

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
By a "connection" to this forum, I mean just clicking on the bookmark. The forum page will appear to be loading, but I guess it really isn't because nothing will work, the only way out is to shut off the browser, then restart it. If the forum operates, then it will continue to for the duration of the time I'm online. When I make a connection to the internet, I won't even try to get here unless the speed is at least 45K , the fastest we can get is 48K. There must be a lot of others living in remote areas who don't have all the razzel dazzel internet stuff. That's one of the reasons I have mag7 or better skies too. I've noticed some serious amateurs who used to post here on occasion don't anymore, it could be that they just can't use this forum anymore.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Hey Kevin!,,,,I'm still havin' probs with it and through a DSL connection. I have to use IE to access the forums and Firefox to get the mailers and due to that I get my own mailers!......Firefox works way faster on every aspect of the site!......But try to click on reader forums and bang!...Your done!..I have to re-boot my P.C. to get going again!......Before the revamp everything worked bitchen and I get regular automatic updates on Firefox.....I do like the new look! (It's more along the line of dark eye friendly) At least till ya go to post on forums.....But it's gettin' old having to go back & forth through two browsers just to navigate the site anymore!......I hope it gets fixed soon , it's just in the reader forums where I'm having the problem and I don't need my own mailers......Thanks ....Dave

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Thats the exact argument I just sent to the Admin to see if the programmers could come up with a solution for. Hopefully they will address this Monday and get back to us with an answer soon. I will continue to follow up with them however, just to be sure it doesn't get left in the slush pile of things to do. johnm:There must be a lot of others living in remote areas who don't have all the razzel dazzel internet stuff. Hey, I may be willing to give up my high speed connection for a piece of those mag7 or better skies.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
There weren't even telephones around here till about 20 years ago. The phone company got a grant and laid in about 50 miles of buried lines to get phones to about a dozen places. There's still a couple outlying ranches that have to use radio phones. CB radios were the modern means we used to communicate with the outside world. And everybody hooked up illegal amplifiers to make those things work.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
Astronig - I had most of the problems you had, especially slooooow page changing with IE. Several days ago I switched to Firefox and although changing pages is somewhat slow, it's like lightning compared to what it was. I'm using an ether connection to my local server and being "fast", could this have anything to do with my success (no crashes, etc.)? Mr Q

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
For what it's worth - Firefox is still running "hot and steady" (old submarine torpedo jargon?) after several days, though the page changing speed is a bit slow at times. But I'm happy I no longer have to to enjoy the forum once again. Mr Q

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
This isn't strictly about FF. I had to enable scripts for this site to log in. Can anyone tell me what kind of script? I actually prefer to use Opera, but I need to know the settings for scripts. Thanks Weezy

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
I can log in with firefox, jump back and forth to other sites and still be logged in. Fast browsing. But with firefox there is no REPLY button in the threads and I cannot start a thread. I must log in with IE to post.

Re: Firefox & Reader Forums
I found that this problem was rectified by uninstalling Java & reinstalling (I guess) what ended up being the latest version & have not had any problems with it since . Although at times I get a page that doesn't load completely and the second try usually does the trick . This happens very seldom .
