    Meade Autostar Suite software

I have the original single shot color Meade DSI.   I am having continuing problems with the Autostar Suite software......error messages, etc.   I am using a Windows XT laptop.   It worked fine for a while, now it works sporadically.   I am not enough of a computer geek to figure out what the problem is.

At any rate, is there a downloadable software program, that is not hugely complicated, that will run the Meade DSI.......automatically combine images, etc.   I hate to start all over to learn a new program, but I am about ready to give up on Autostar Suite.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Barry,

Did you try to restore your system to an early date when autostar was working (Use System restore and choose an early date)? or maybe you need to "defrag" (Disk Defrag) your system. Both options can be located in windows by going to: Start>All Programs>Accesories>System tools

     Good luck!

Have you downloaded and/or installed any of the updates for it? You need to loin the Meade 4M (or something like that) community but it is free to get the updates. I would also try uninstalling the program and re-install it. It would be a good idea to re-locate the images you do have out of the program if you un-install the program so you do not loose them.

A disk check would also be a good thing to do.

I am doing this from my Windows 2000 computer so some of the wording may be slightly different.

Go to MY COMPUTER  right click on the C drive and select PROPERTIES. then click on the TOOLS tab near the top, click on  CHECK NOW tab in the error checking section. click the check box for AUTOMATICALLY FIX ERRORS and SCAN FOR AND ATTEMPT RECOVERY OF BAD SECTORS.

It will tell you it can not do it now and ask if you want it to run at the next startup., click yes. The next time you turn the computer on it will run the check disk and depending on how large the drive is it may take a while. I generally do it before I go to bed and let it run while I am asleep and not in need of the computer. I have done it on one of my 500 gig drives and it took hours.
