There is a theory known as the ekpyrotic universe that theorizes that two 3 dimensional universes or branes (I believe they are branes, correct me if I'm wrong) are moving side by side with eachother with another dimension in between.

This will be fun...... the word alternate can decieve you into the thinking that the other universe is the same, just differant(mustache, no mustache)...let's move past this and get to "another" or maybe "multiple", because I think just one would be far fetched.... Think about Stephen Hawkings theory about no old "universe" retaining information, you think a universe just expands-contracts and POOF everythings gone? try thinking that maybe all that "stuff" goes somewhere, maybe to a new universe...... or maybe there are multiple universes co-existing at different phases in their life, feeding off of the life/death of eachother like a cluster of bubbles, maybe theres a big bubble in the middle to give em a field to play in.... As for the dimensions gig of it, you should KNOW there ARE other dimensions, it's just impossible to explain or percieve anything past the 4th... You out there that have opened your 3rd eye know what I'm talk'n about :)..... in my mind multiple dimensions and universes must exist, I believe by the end of my lifetime(I'm only 22 now) that farther physics and the a BETTER understanding of gravity will be achieved..... Let me help out Einstien drop that pesky M, and prove that a rift in the time/space continuom will happen... see if u can figure that one......

    Hi!

M-Theory is a modern theory that supposes that we actually live in an 11-dimensional realm, and in that realm there are membranes (or branes) that can have up to 10 dimensions.

Some suggest 2 3d branes seperated by another dimension as you suggest.   There could be an infinte number of 3d branes in that space.  Some theorize that certain particles or forces exist in one brane, and other forces on another brane, etc..

Without a formal formulation of String Theory and M-Theory, it seems to be all speculation.

    Re: NASA Finds Alternate Universe?

Hi, ive just joined Astronomy so hello to everyone. Let me say that what got me here was a book called 'Urantia' Its about how the whole universe thing operates and functions. Much more advanced than present day technology. It was written around 1938 and probably most atronomers have come across it. Star trek was inspired by the book as were other sci fi moves.and books like Jane Auel Clan of the cave bear..

Firstly i started searching mind as if it were a space  recognised by all the types of energy there. Space is often seen as negative or empty, something to sometimes be angry for.. but on closer observation the insight is real. It moves, it has a sense of cloudiness sometimes,  it has swirls.., it can burst into light, and has a Central core and it also has Outer Spheres. I feel the  outermost outersphere is evolving all the time in such raw stae. As for developing galaxies and universes beyond the brink..they are in my mind. Apart from being so inspired by the book ive decided to enrol in atsronomy classes.
