    Aurora images from 2006

This is going back a bit but I just remembered how much I enjoyed the flight I went on last year to see the Northern Lights
so I thought I would add a page on my website. We were fortunate to see both the aurora and also the incredible sight of the night sky when there are absolutely no lights around and from a height of 38,000 feet or whatever it is.

I have posted up some thumbnails of what we saw http://www.space-and-telescope.com/NorthernLights.aspx  and although they do show the aurora to good effect they just can't do justice to what we saw once our eyes were fully acclimatised to the dark. We also had a talk before hand from Chris Lintott of BBC Sky at Night fame and also Paul Money http://www.astspace.demon.co.uk/ who also came up on the flight and gave us lots of info. Thanks to Paul for allowing me to add the thumbnails of his photos to my site and a link to his. I would really recommend that any one who has the chance should go on a similar trip.

Wow well I have nothing to compete with that! I really am rather jealous of where you live, I might have to visit up north sometime.

UK's the bomb mate! And aurorae are actually pretty rare here in the south (60 deg) so if you want to see them for real, go NORTH, for a real display! If you are a visual observer like me, you just hope you won't see any of these when you're observing...
