    Astronomy on the Radio

    Goofy question for ya...

does anyone know of any astronomy based radio shows?  i've recently taken quite a large liking to talk radio, and was wonderin if there are any quality programs out there...  (call in shows, or not, i'm not too picky)

i live in the twin cities area, (minneapolis/st. paul, minnesota, usa) if that helps anyone with helpin me out.  my audio capabilities on the internet aren't the greatest, so i'm sure someday i'll appreciate any websites you could mention...  i'm trying to specifically find radio shows/ stations that discuss the topic.

    thanks, everyone!

I haven't found any dedicated astronomy shows in my area, but I do listen to Dr. Michio Kaku (Theoretical Physicist) from time to time. He's a great pleasure to listen to anytime. You may have even seen him on a NOVA or Discovery Channel special, he's a popular figure. Even though it involves more physics than anything he always elaborates into something you may be interested in. He is very easy to listen.

    Check this link out...

The BBC in the past had a short wave program called Seeing Stars, but it may have been cancelled. I only turn the old ICF-2010 on in the evenings for an hour or two to get some alternative political news.

Patrick Moore's program can be watched on the BBC site. The Sky At  Night

The message in my Chinese fortune cookie read, "There appear to be many clouds, but they quickly pass". Only in a better universe, huh?

    Hi,

You should have a look at itunes. If you have the itunes player, you can download and listen to a number of different "Podcasts" for free. Something interesting I have found with a couple of the podcasts is that they actually have integrated video with several of them. So while you are listening to the show, visual images of the topic in question appear on your screen so that you might get a better understanding of what they speaking about. A podcast favourite of mine is "AstronomyCast". You will also be able to find Astronomy magazines podcast there as well for free. Since the majority, if not all of these shows are prerecorded, you won't be able to call in. But in most cases you can email in questions that they may find the time to answer in their next show.

Itunes can be downloaded for free here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/

from within your itunes player you can navigate and subscribe to all of the podcasts you wish.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    SL

McDonald Observatory has short programs on Public Radio. Usually about upcoming celestial events.

The Education and Public Outreach folks at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center are looking for feedback on podcasts with astrophysics content. What are your favorites? What do you want to hear about?

Tell them by taking this brief web survey: http://www.knowitbetter.com/limesurvey/index.php?sid=12765〈=en

The information will be used to shape next year's podcast offerings.
