Re: Amateur Astronomy Club of Mongolia

    Greetings to all!

recently we have encountered one task about new club telescope.

Currently, we do not have any telescope owned by our club, except my handmade old 55mm refractor and 6inch rft.

Yesterday our club registered our 61st member, 61 is quiet big number relative to our country's population which is just 2mln people. So, as a club containing 61 members we need to have something bigger to look to the wonders of the sky.

We have discussed about this issue, and decided to build one telescope of aperture 10-15inches at least. The major problem that we are having is of course the money$$$. The average income per person in our country is about only 80$per month. Thus we cannot collect big amount of money to buy a ready telescope. Still we afraid will the money be enough just for the mirrors... Ashamed [*^_^*]

Our club is located at the Ulaanbaatar Astronomical Observatory(www.rcag.url.mn), I mean we do not have office there, but we just use some old telescopes there in our starparties.

    -8inch very old coude refractor

-2.4inch old russian refractor for sattelite traking

And in our country, we do not have any laboratories to aluminize the mirror...also it is difficult to figure and polish the mirror blank here, because I'm the only person who has ever made mirror here. 1year ago I've figured and polished 6inch spherical mirror and coated it in russia. This is the only experience of our whole country, so I think it is a big deal to build a big mirror, and we thought to buy one is best way.

Lastly, if you have any comments, or ideas for our club telescope, please help us by posting them here!

     clear skies,

    Tuguldur
