The image has to already be hosted on another website. It would be nice if astronomy.com had some webspace to allow us to upload pics, but for now, it seems they don't. Go to the website the pic is at, right click on it, hit properties, and copy the URL. Come back here, click on the button above in "FORMAT" that looks like a picture of 2 mountains and a sun. It will then give you two "url's" enclosed in brackets., and inbetween the two "urls", you insert the url that the pic is at.

Where is this button located? I do not see it. I'm familiar with the button since the same symbol is used in my website software. I even did a page search for the word "format" and it only appears in the posts. I use Windows XP, MSN 9, and MSN Explorer. Is it possible that this process is not available for all systems? Question [?]

When you click Reply or Quote above a post, it's just above "color" box under the line of Format icons above the Reply window. It's the fourth icon from the end of the line of Format icons.

As long as a photo remains at the same URL, it will stay "in the post". If you want to put the same photo in another post you just use the same image URL in the new post. If you want to put a different photo in another post, you use a different URL.

So, for example, if you have a gallery of photos online somewhere, you can put the different photos in different posts as long as the photos don't have the same URL.

We're talking here about a URL that ends with the filename of the picture, not just the URL of an html "page" ...

URL Stands for Universal Resource Locator and is just a fancy name for a web address.

PS: Sorry that this is off topic.

Place it between the dual sets of brackets after you click the image button. For example, using "<" instead of "["

A good way to learn how to do it is to click on the "reply with quote" button at the top of a post that has a picture attached. That person's entire post will show up illustrating exactly what he typed in to display the photo.
Once you've seen how to do it, just back out of the reply screen.

How do I abbreviate a URL in the text so that it still works as a link?
