Hey I'm also in NC (Wilkesboro) looking for a club. The closest one I've found is in Statesville. The web site is http://www.piedmontamateurastronomers.com/

There might be others, I couldn't really tell you. Most of the North Carolina Clubs are in the western part of the state. I have only found a handful for the whole state.
Here is another link you can search.

I think Statesville is going to be the closest for you.

There is one in Maiden NC.  It's called the Catawba Valley Astronomers club and they have an observatory that is open to the public the 1st friday of the month.  If you are a member I think you can go more often.

Me and my dad are also looking for some clubs. We would like to find a club that gets together every once and a while, and looks through telescopes as a group. We don't really want to be a big part of the group... yet Sign - Dots [#dots]. We may just start up our own club, if we do not find any.

I know I feel weird going to a club where I don't know anyone.   I think I prefer to look by myself but I don't learn anything that way.

Hey, I'm also in Wilkesboro. Imagine that. There is a club in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Astronomical Club, FAC. The Forsyth club has a private viewing site on the Blue Ridge, as I have been told. That sounds like it might possibily be a dark site and it is close. I think Winston (FAC) would be a closer club to visit, 4 lane all the way. Just a thought.

Do you know of any areas in Wilkes Co. that could be considered dark sites and that are not private?

With a few more people...we could start another clubSmile [:)].

I'm also in Wilkesboro looking for more info on astronomy.  I'm very much a novice and would like to learn the basics. I may check out the forsyth club sometime.
