Anyone using Registax thats running it on Windows XP? I can't get the program to startup once I've installed it. I only have four files in the RegiStax folder, is that all that's suppose to be there? Any help is appreciated.

It only has a few files. However I woudl remove them and try to
re-install it. I have it running on Windows XP also. How much memory
are you running on and at what cpu speed?
I hardly use it any more I have since started Using the freware program
called gimp. There is a lot more to that program, it does much more
with many more available tools than Registax.

When running these Image processing program you want to make sure you have the memory for them to use..

Re: Problem with RegiStax
Thanks Tim. I downloaded GIMP last night and it seems to be working just fine. Now I just have to figure out how to use it. Looks like the skies are clearing tonight and tomorrow so we should be able to do some viewing! ![Big Smile [:D]](/ASY/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Re: Problem with RegiStax
Registax requires a lot of memory - I have 768Mb RAM on the laptop that I run the program on as it wouldn't run with the original 256Mb RAM. My OS is XP Home.
I have 7 files in my Registax3 sub-directory off my Program Files Folder:-
caplist ch1fastrun lang_en registax (configuration) registax (short cut) registax3d reset.rwv
Tim, can you automatically align, stack multiple images and subtract a dark frame using The Gimp?

I have not gone it to it that much, I am still new to it myself.
However, I do know there are stack and layer function along with the
many other functions it has, I am only using a 35mm camera so I have
not used the stack or layer functions. So I couldn't honestly tell you
how they work. Like Registax and many other image manipulation
programs it uses memory.

Re: Problem with RegiStax
Tim, thanks for the reply.
Certainly, the post image manipulation facilities of Registax are limited apart from the excellent Wavelet functions but these really only work on Lunar and Planetary images in my experience. The levels, hue/saturation/lightness, contrast/brightness are all there but I often find it necessary to tweak further which is where Photoshop comes into play. I have heard very good reports about The Gimp from a fellow imager who is heavily into Unix which is where The Gimp was produced.
I have tried aligning and stacking in Photoshop ( I have version 4.0 ) but wasn't that convinced by the results. However, Registax seems to just fly through it all automatically leaving me to do the final adjustments in Photoshop which excels at levels and colour adjustments.

Does Registax have a Mac version?
Am very familiar with Photoshop and have been using it for more than 10 years. I like the idea of having Registax do the brunt of the work and making final adjustments in Photoshop!

As far as I know it does not. However there is one like registax called Kieths Image stacker that is suppose to work like registax. http://www.unm.edu/%7Ekeithw/software/keithsImageStacker.htmlHave A Nice __________

Re: Problem with RegiStax
I have a mac as well and, while Keith's Image Stacker isn't bad, it doesn't seem built to handle very large numbers of images (just tries to load everything into memory which doesn't necessarily work). Should I not be using so many frames? How long of video does one typically care about?

Re: Problem with RegiStax
Yeah, the worst thing I've found with Registax is that it's a terrible memory hog. Also, the first insallation didn't seem to work, when I tried to open it it would attempt to make an internet connection, a reinstallation seemed to fix that. I need to try that Gimp program, hadn't heard of it before.

Re: Problem with RegiStax
Unless there is some plugin for it, the GIMP is not really designed for this sort of thing, it is more of a photoshop style application. Certainly you can perform these types of things in it but it does not have the automation that thign sliek registax and keith's do (such as alignment). Too bad registax does not work on Mac natively.
