Hoag's object
PGC 54559 Hoag's object in Serpent
We had a discussion on a Finnish stargazer's forum about this elusive galaxy. Has anyone observed this one visually? It is anyway a though one, and yet no one has observed this visually in Finland...at least as I know.

RE: Hoag''s object
I have definately heard of this object before... don't know if it was because I observed it, or I read about it, or I just saw it on my star charts....
I will check it out tonight on my star charts to try to determine if I have observed it or not.

RE: Hoag's object
This object has been observed by two amateur astronomers in Finland and by one in Sweden, all visually. Here is a photo of the object, by Finnish amateur astronomers. (2. and 3. pictures.)

http://heritage.stsci.edu/2002/21/big.html for another good reason to repair Hubble.
I have not viewed it personally as of yet, but many big Dobsonian owners have. It will be on my viewing list for this summer.

The message in my Chinese fortune cookie read, "There appear to be many clouds, but they quickly pass". Only in a better universe, huh?
