I am no poet but this rivals anything I have read to date by the likes of Wordsworth. Keep it up

    Daughter of the sun
    Daughter of the earth
    leader of the night
    Princess of the sky
    Ghost of thy lunar dust
    spirit of the moon
    Goal to to the astronauts
    companion to the earth
A place known to life, The MOON.

WOW! I haven't been online since the beginning of November, and I just got back today and read through all the posts in this thread---lol I'm so proud to have started this one Big Smile [:D] I'm seeing some wonderful pieces of poetry! Impressive Smile [:)] Well, I have written a total of 60 poems (exactly) but the rest are all completely unrelated to astronomy. Perhaps I should get writing eh? I might post a few sometime....well...lol here's a free-verse I wrote yesterday:

    "Echoes Past"

    I hear voices
    In the stillness
    In the blackness
    Voices
    From afar
    From ago
    In my head
    Voices
    Whispering softly
    To the depths
    Of my subconscious
    Mind
    Voices
    Echoing
    From afar
    From ago
    Echoing
    Echoing
    Voices
    In my head
    I hear voices
    Echoing
    From ago
    Voices
    From the past
    Echoing
    In my head
    I hear voices
    Echoes past

    RE: "Ganymede"

    Star
    Shining bright
    Lights the day
    Deserts the night
    The Moon reflects
    Light just enough
    To wash away
    The deep sky stuff
    Rats

Okay, just wrote this one... Question [?] Whats the hidden puzzle? (not that the star is the Sun. Some other thing)

    galaxia16,
I enjoyed your poems especially "Ganymede" and "A Lonely World" and
I am not much into poetry.

    Thanks

    { There is no missing matter or dark matter to explain what scientists cannot understand and that is that they may never be able to understand the universe. They had better focus on the here and now or we may not have a society or planet capable of sustaining life. }

Wow!! I couldn't imagine why so much discussion about Ganymede, and never opened the thread until now. What a great surprise!

Astronomy lends itself beautifully to so much more than just empirical or scientific expression. Others may debate this, but to me (and I dare say each of the contributors to this thread) the universe has an undeniable aesthetic quality. Our human condition is reflected just as much in how we subjectively perceive and express it as any paper/thesis/work that seeks to understand an objective reality.

Please forgive my waxing philosophic, but that's part of what creative writing should invoke. Everyone here certainly invoked it in me. Great job all, and thank you.

    Iapetus: shows
    the symmetry of the soul
    orb of dark and light.

A bit short, but that's how Haiku goes. Don't hurt me if it's bad.

    On a chilly winter#8217;s night,
    I gazed into the sky,
    Saw the little, twinkling stars,
    And a comet quiver by......

    Can anyone suggest some continuation?
