    Big Smile [:D] String Theory

I would like to know peoples opinions on this theory. Do you believe there really are 11 dimensions? Do you believe that General relativity and quantum mechanics can actually be combined? What do yoo think the discovery (if we ever discover it) of string theory would mean for the every day person?Tongue [:P]

    Angry [:(!] RE: String Theory

I believe that we live in a multi-verse and that each layer has it's own mechanics. Ours could be the only layer where string theory is running the show, or it could be one of dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of layers where it works. As for the impact on the everyday person, I doubt it will affect them at all. They would be completly oblivious to it and take that knowledge for granted, like so many other things in our field.

I think there is only a .003% chance that General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics will be combined within the next 200 years, and thats being optimistic.

    RE: String Theory

Hey, until Einstein came along there were only 3 dimensions. I wouldn't be surprised at any number over that.

The Grand Unified Theory about Everything is bound to be arrived at if enough time is available. The Universe is one thing, and even if there are parts that overlap with other spaces and dimensions that have nothing to directly contribute here, the parts that do exist here should explain each other’s existence. (And make alibis for each other’s where-abouts when ever one disappears)...

I guess that the answer to the string thing begins with another question. What has this General Relativity guy ever done for me? Tongue [:P]

    Re: String Theory

Hi, I'm new and as for the String Theory - I was going to do a paper for my class on the Big Bang and got into this String Theory, lol. Talk about making my life complicated, I also have 7 pages to write about this subject by Saturday the 7th (THIS SATURDAY!) and can use all the help I can get, so anyone who has studied this subject and would be willing to assist me with information please email me at caroleecovert@gmail.com - I don't know enough yet to answer the questions yet, hopefully I will get some responses and through my searches will be able to come back in a few days and answer your questions. Glad I found thhis site though!
