I know I work for a big famous magazine with thousands and thousands of readers, but it can be weirdly easy to forget that fact. Working in an office, seeing the same co-workers, receiving a new issue every month — sometimes it can feel like we’re the only ones who have anything to do with Astronomy.
What better way to commemorate NASA’s Blueshift blog mentioning their inclusion in Astronomy’s “Cosmic Grid” — itself documenting the blog’s staff visit to The Big Bang Theory’s set — than with a blog post of our own? Chris Raymond photo
And then something awesome happens, like a shout out from
NASA’s Blueshift blog by Sara Mitchell of the Goddard Space Flight Center. I’m always a little nervous featuring people in
Astronomy’s monthly “Cosmic Grid” department, because not every little blurb is complimentary. In this case, though, I wrote about Blueshift’s visit to the set of
The Big Bang Theory, which I put in the “Hot, Predictable” quadrant for obvious reasons.
Sara seems tickled to be featured in the magazine (including a picture), but I found it at least as delightful to have the Grid featured in an official NASA blog — these guys are like rock stars to us! Sure, we often work and interact with them, but still! Sara also gently tweaks us that their visit, which happened in September, isn’t exactly recent news, but in my defense: A) the issue came out March 1, and B) the magazine’s departments have to be in quite a bit earlier than other, more timely material, such as the actual news.
So on the off chance the fine folks of Blueshift happen to see this shout out of their shout out, I say: Thanks, and can I have your autograph?
