I do not need my glasses when using my binoculars or telescope.  While I am nearsighted I do not suffer from astigmatism.  I only need to bring the instrument to a focus that matches my eyesight.  If you suffer from astigmatism then you should wear your glasses to achieve good focus.

There two reason I do have to use my glasses when focusing. If I am taking an image is one, but far more important is for me to use them when sharing the instrument with others.  Failure to do so will mean a person with regular eyesight will see nothing but an unfocused blob when I am finished with looking!

I think the simple answer would be:

"When things are not coming into focus 100%".

You may never need your eyeglasses for stargazing, when distances at infinity are involved.

You need to experiment & educate yourself around your prescription. Geeked

Some binoculars are capable of focusing down to around 5' or so.

You may need your eyeglasses when focusing up-close.

I wear reading glasses but my distance vision is still 20/20.  When should a person wear glasses when using binoculars?

Well boys, we got three engines out, we got more holes in us than a horse trader's mule, the radio is gone and we're leaking fuel and if we was flying any lower why we'd need sleigh bells on this thing...
