Early Evening Star watching

I am Hoping some one can give me the correct answer .In the early evening between aprox 6.pm MST till 730pm In the SW sky a bright star is observed mid skyline and very bright Just what am i looking at

Venus. It will be getting steadily higher in the sky before sunset for the next few months.

Look for a pairing of Venus and the crescent moon on the evening of the 25th. You should be able to see the old moon in the new moon's arms.
