Moon Occults Lam Gem - Eurasia - Feb 11-12
Posted by Centaur on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 10:14 AM
The 91% illuminated waxing gibbous Moon will occult (cover) the magnitude +3.6 star Lambda Geminorum for observers in Eurasia during the night of 2014 FEB 11-12. This will be an evening event for northern Europe and an early morning event in northern India. Immersion will occur on the lunar dark limb and emersion on the bright limb. Observers on the only graze path will witness the star winking on and off as lunar hills and valleys pass by. Observers north of the graze path will see a full occultation.
I’ve created a Eurasian graze map, preview graphic with data for London, and a set of Besselian elements. They can be seen at
Photos and descriptions of the event would be welcome additions to this thread. If you would like specific occultation or graze predictions for your location, please reply to this post with your longitude, latitude, elevation and time zone.
