Rogus

Tonight I wish to submit an image I made of a beautiful Two Day Old Moon and the Star, Aldebaran. I made the image at 20:54:28 local time here in Jadwin, Missouri on 05/11/2013. I had been rained out the evening before as I tried to photograph the new Moon, only hours old. But tonight we enjoyed crystal clear skies with a slight chill in the air, but a wonderful night all the same. The Moon hung high in the West with mighty Jupiter above it. Below the Moon was the bright reddish Star, Aldebaran. Aldebaran, seemed to be bidding farewell for the Winter season as it hung low over the tree line. Some call it, "The Eye of Taurus, the Bull", but it was conspicuous, and made a wonderful pairing with this young Moon. My exposure time was 1/6 of a second at f4.1 and an ISO of 640 was used with my Cannon 60Da astro camera, that was fitted with a Baader Vario Finder Scope as a lens. This lens is a Carl Zeiss design and is a 61mm x 250 fl. It makes a great lens for conjunctions and shots like this one.

Super Moon 3/19/11

3/19/11, Super Moon, closest the moon has been to the earth since 1993

Moon collage

Photos shot over a 9 day period

A face in our Sun

On a slow prominence day, the Sun had great activity on the surface. One of the most interesting features is seen just south of the center. An area where sunspots and filaments have come together, you will notice that a face with a rather evil smile appears to have emerged.
