Sharpless 2–1 (LBN 1093/4) is a faint reflection nebula and HII region ionized by the bright star pi Sco (HIP 78265, vdB 99) approximately 650 light-years away in Scorpius. This object along with Sh 2–7 is collectively known as Siv 10 (a very-wide-field survey of HII regions) and is part of the Astronomy League’s Bright Nebulae Program.
Luminance – 12x600s – 120 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
240 minutes total exposure – 4 hours
Imaged May 11th and 18th, 2015 at the Danville Conservation Area (New Florence, Missouri) with a SBIG ST-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT90EDT at f/6.7 603mm.
