4-inch triplet for less than some doublets
Posted by Antitax on Saturday, February 01, 2014 5:03 AM

(I stumbled upon this while roaming my favorite dealer's site, Teleskop Service. Could be that US dealers offer about the same deal in dollars, that's worth checking).

The 4-inch triplet financial barrier has been pushed further again. Explore's 4-inch f/7 Essential triplet apo used to be the best deal at 949€, but Meade dropped the price further at 899€. Sorry, the page is in german only, the english translation is not available yet, but the Teleskop Service staff answers to emails in english.

The scope is displayed with diagonal and finder attached, however only the optical tube and dual-speed focuser will be had for 899€, obviously. This is not an FPL-53 glass objective but these cost at least 1,400€, not the same class. And Sky-Watcher's top-of-the-line 4-inch Equinox FPL-53 doublet costs around 1,000€.
