  • I am new to this and have just upgraded my astro system. I would like some input and suggestions about my new rig. I have 12kg payload on the mount which is a CG 5 GT and max payload is 15.8 so 15.8 minus 75% = 12kg will this work?? it is balanced well.Even though I will be installing a kendrick dew heater on the front lens will I still need a dew gaurd?

Take a look at the picture see if you can spot any faults or things I might have missed. The imager is under the scope for balance and I think it will make polar alignment much easier because of positioning during mount alignment why i never though of this before I will never know... Takes the gymnastics out alignment.

  • Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll get lots of meaningful suggestions from this group. When I see rigs like this it reminds me why i'm very happy with my DOB and am satisfied by seeing the photos by the wire cluttered set.

I almost put my foot in my mouth and made a comment about how at least you should rough set your latitude angle unless you live near the North Pole then I saw where you were located.

Looking forward to seeing your results.            Ken

  • I went further north in the country last winter to chase the northern lights and I had to drop the back leg to get it lined up. It was also -27deg So it was set up then pack up and make a run for the warmth. It will be interesting to see how many cables crack this winter!! Yes the cables are a bit messy but I am waiting for a few more bits before measuring  cutting and re-solder them. I put it together in the late hours of last night after the family went to bed. Just got an idea I´ll run what I can throw a 1/2 inch pipe insulation.

  • -27!!! That would give me cable trouble that not even 1/2" pipe insulation would touch.  Glad my DOB is in San Diego.   -27!! Please send pics of the Northern Lights because I never want to get that close to them. Latitude 32 is my happy place.

  • I have taken the same Genesis Partner APIs used in the Ruby example and implemented them in Python. I used python-suds-0.3.7 for the soap calls. I had to make sure that the suds directory was in PYTHONPATH
