Post Display Delay
Posted by Astronomy Moon on Saturday, December 14, 2013 6:39 AM

Hi all, first of all apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but this is an issue with the forum so I assume I'm in the right place.

I posted a reply to a discussion thread, which basically thanked another member for their help and also asked for further advice. I then had a message saying it would take up to 72 hours to post as it had to be approved by moderators. Is this the case for everybody and if so why is this necessary? As a newbie it seems quite restrictive. At first I will probably be posting in the equipment section quite a lot to get general advice for star-gazing for that evening, but if I was to ask a simple question it would take 3 days for my post to appear and then 3 days to read a response.

Please don't take this as a criticism, because it isn't, but the delay just seems counter productive to free-flowing conversation and I just wondered why this was neccessary.

Thank you, Astronomy Moon

All new members are moderated (which causes the up to 72-hour delay) for their first few posts (avoids spam, trolls, and off-topic discussions). After that, though, your posts will be auto-approved, and only members who have trouble following the rules of the Forums still have their posts moderated.
